Promotion
Promoting a site like this has to be done through a lot of channels. Most of them are entirely my responsibility. I have a ton of experience building links and directory listings, especially for adult-oriented sites. I’ll be bringing all that experience to bear on Twisted Erotica.
I also ask that contributing authors do what they can to help promote the site. This isn’t a ‘requirement’ per-se. If you write good erotica I’ll be happy to have it published here, whether you ever lift a finger to promote this site or not. Still, in order for all of us to get the most out of this, I ask that contributing authors help out to whatever extent they can.
The first way to accomplish this is ‘cross posting.’ That means that ideally you post your erotica here, then post an excerpt on your site with a link back to the full piece on Twisted Erotica. Since this site is also about helping readers get to know the authors, do just the reverse with some of your posts on your blog–post them there and then post an excerpt here with a link. This will help promote one of our end goals; to have surfers wander around from one site to the next within the little network we’re building. We want the content of this site to remain primarily erotica, with some authors’ ramblings for flavor.
Another method is to add a link to both your blog and Twisted Erotica into your signature at whatever forums you might post in. Still another is to comment on posts when you’re out reading whatever blogs you might visit regularly, and link back to either your site or Twisted Erotica. Every time that’s another link to your site and this one for each of your posts, and though they don’t count for much individually the search engines take notice as they pile up.
Again, you don’t ‘have’ to promote Twisted Erotica, but you’ll get more out of the site if you do. Any traffic you send here benefits you as much as anyone else, since credibility builds right along with a growing number of visitors.
I’ll be building feeder sites as a method to infuse this website with long term, targeted traffic. These are small, highly targeted sites built and submitted to a variety of web directories. Any given feeder won’t create a ton of traffic, but a bunch of trickles adds up to a lot. I’ve partnered up with a couple sponsors who will be providing content for feeder sites, in exchange for promoting their programs alongside Twisted Erotica on the feeders and some light advertising on the main site.
I’ll be using both sponsor content and my own work to generate feeders. Theoretically I could build a half dozen a week if I had enough content. Any contributing authors willing to allow use of their work on these feeder sites will get links back to their own blog, alongside the links pointing here. That’s one more place that the search engines see your name, and a chance to spread your online presence to readers of erotica who may never visit a site like this or a writer’s blog.
