Call To Writers
If you are an author of erotic fiction or poetry, I thank you for finding your way to this page. I’ll assume that you are indeed a writer and don’t mind a bit of reading. What I’m attempting to do with this site is a little different from anything else I’ve seen on the web, and it will take a bit of explanation to cover it all. In short, I’m offering skilled writers of erotica a rather unique opportunity to establish or expand their online presence; as well as developing marketing channels for their work.
I’ve been writing all my life, but just recently finished my first novel. In researching the rigors of getting published I saw countless references to a writer having an “online presence” in order to help establish their credibility and also show literary agents and publishers that they have something solid to contribute to the marketing of any published work.
In addition to being a writer I’ve got time in as an editor, and I’m also a veteran webmaster and podcaster with extensive experience building traffic across networks of websites. For me, the concept of developing an “online presence” was pretty straightforward. I started planning out how many sites I needed, what to do with them, etc. It also occurred to me, however, that most writers don’t have access to the same resources as myself; and that there’s always plenty I can learn from others as well.
The nature of building network traffic actually makes it easier for me to build traffic for myself if I’m helping others to build traffic at the same time; as long as we’re all working together at a central location. This brings me to my vision for Twisted Erotica.
This site has existed for over six years, and spent most of that time as a few pages with some of my old BDSM poems. It’s been quietly getting a nice bit of search engine traffic for all that time, and is already highly ranked in Google for some erotica-oriented keyphrases. In its first full month after launch Twisted Erotica will have well over 6,000 unique visitors, all of whom are what we call “filtered” traffic…people who clicked a link to get here, and are getting what they expected. Not a ridiculous amount of traffic, but not shabby at all for its first month. Those numbers will continue to grow, and they’ll grow much faster if I’m not the only one writing content.
Each promotional “feeder” site that I build allows me to pick any single piece of writing over about 3000 words (or a pair at around 1500 words each) and guarantee that several thousand surfers looking for erotica will read it in the first month. With specific permission, I can do the same with the work of contributing authors.
The first feeder that I built for this site was for the story Timing is Everything. It got a little over 2200 visitors in the first week, and will have 4,000-5,000 total by the time it’s been up a month. That slows over time for each site, but the search engines still see them and nearly half of the visitors end up right here on the main site…looking for more erotica.
Most erotica sites are little more than vast libraries written by countless authors, most of whom are lucky to get a link back to their own sites in the byline. My goal isn’t to get surfers lost here just so they can look at my advertising for as long as possible, but to create a flow of traffic between Twisted Erotica, my sites and your site(s).
I’m not looking for submitters, I’m looking for contributors. Instead of trying the same old “give me content to keep eyeballs on my advertising, the hell with promoting you individually,” I want to work with other authors to create a platform that builds credibility and visibility for all of us. The business of building web traffic and getting eyeballs where you want them is an endeavor that starts slow, but continually builds momentum. From all I’ve seen so far, the same goes for the business of publishing. Building an online presence is another “long haul” endeavor, but it’s really not hard and I can help you with the basics.
I don’t want this site to become megalithic either, especially not overnight. For the moment I’d like to find a handful of other authors to work out the kinks with me, then take on a few more at a time to keep everything running smoothly and under control. Eventually I’m sure I’ll have to tap someone to assist in the editorial department as well.
You don’t need to know anything about search engine optimization or building websites (that’s my job!). I just want you to add some original, twisted erotica to this site when you can; hopefully at least once a month or so. There’s a bit more to it if you want to truly make the most out of being a contributor here, but that’s all laid out on the Author’s Guide page. All the while, I’ll be making sure that all posts here are search engine optimized and building a network of link trades with relevant sites that will benefit all of us.
If this sounds good to you, check out the next page to see how it works for contributing authors!
